How do I Know if I Have Varicose Veins?
Commonly, varicose veins require no more special diagnostics than a visual inspection. Varicose veins are deep blue in color, and often appear large, twisted, and knotty. If you notice these veins on your legs or ankles, it is probable that you have varicose veins.
The obvious visual signs may also be accompanied by other symptoms including:
- Aches or a weighty sensation in your legs
- Burning, cramping or swelling in your lower legs
- Discomfort in the legs after standing or sitting for long periods
- An itchy feeling around the veins
A consultation and exam with endovascular specialist Dr. Dominic Pedulla can assess the severity of your varicose veins, locate the source of your symptoms and help determine the best treatment option for your individual condition.
Dr. Pedulla and the team at the Oklahoma Vein & Endovascular Center use state-of-the-art ultrasonic imaging to determine the problem of your spreading varicose veins, which is often a single larger vein.
Depending on the severity of your varicose veins and other factors, Dr. Pedulla may recommend one of the following treatment options:
- Endovenous laser treatment (EVLT), in which a laser is used to seal the problem vein
- Sclerotherapy, in which an injectable solution closes off the affected vein
